# Can I Request a Jury Trial in My Utah Divorce? | Brown Family Law

When we see trials on TV, they’re always jury trials.

Why?

Because it’s more dramatic that way. The TV attorney gets to play to the jury, while the judge sits there like a bump on a log and plays the bad guy.

The reality is most trials are not jury trials. Instead, they’re trials to a judge, also known as “bench trials” (the bench is where the judge sits).

****In Utah, all divorce and child custody trials are bench trials****.

If you requested a jury trial, the judge would turn down your request.
