# Utah Holiday Parent-Time: How Does the Fourth of July Work? | Brown Family Law

The Fourth of July is about the middle of summer parent-time (at least that’s how most divorce families think about it). Often, parents will use it as a good exchange point for vacations and the like.

So, it’s important to know how parent-time on the Fourth works. Thankfully, it’s pretty easy and straightforward:

“July 4 beginning 6 p.m. the day before the holiday until 11 p.m. or no later than 6 p.m. on the day following the holiday, at the option of the parent exercising the holiday.”

(For a complete overview of all parent-time holidays, click [here](https://www.brownfamilylaw.com/blog/utah-holiday-parenting-time/).)

So, the parent who gets the Fourth has the option of returning kids either on the Fourth by 11 p.m. or keeping the kids July 5 and 6 p.m. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a parent returning their kids on July 4 at 11 p.m., so you can pretty much count on July 5 by 6 p.m.

Have a great Fourth.
