Job Title: Divorce Attorney

Our Mission:

We are committed to reducing the stress associated with getting a divorce by providing compassionate legal services with a peaceful pathway for both parties that minimizes potential emotional damage, especially to their children.

We treat our attorneys like family and we strive to provide a kind and professional working environment that proactively supports everyone to succeed and prosper.

We do one thing: Divorce and Custody. We do one thing because we strive to do that one thing better than everyone else. We are looking for attorneys committed to excellence and service.

Job Description:

Our attorneys are provided a limited, high-quality caseload, and are empowered with the tools, training, and systems to effectively engage and serve their clients.

Benefits:

  • Law school loan repayment assistance (up to $10,000 per year based on years with firm)
  • A starting base salary of $100,000 per year, with bonuses (when you meet our base hour requirement)
  • Personal mentoring in client acquisition and business of law
  • Additional commission-based pay based on performance
  • Health insurance reimbursement (up to $450 per month)
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) match (up to 4% of salary)
  • Bar dues and CLEs paid for
  • A flexible vacation and sick-leave policy
  • A kind and generous working environment

Bar Requirement:

Utah Bar admission is required. (Please indicate all bar admissions on your résumé or cover letter.)

Our History and Vision:

We started in 2010 in Salt Lake City. We had no clients and no network. Since then, we have focused exclusively on divorce, served our clients well, and grown to a multi-million-dollar firm. Now, we help more people through divorce than almost any firm in Utah.

Our vision is to be the most client-centric, best known, and highest quality divorce law firm in Utah, as well as additional states.

How We’re Different:

We’re different in three primary ways:

  • We focus on helping a select type of client through divorce.
  • We cap the number of clients an attorney can serve at any given time to keep quality extremely high.
  • We follow a proven success system.

These differences guide us in how we serve our clients, our colleagues, and the courts, as well as how we act as a firm.

Characteristics We Look for in Attorneys:

  • A willingness to learn and improve.
  • An innate desire to personally serve clients and provide exceptional customer service.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with clients (email, phone, and in person).
  • A team player that works well with others.
  • Excellent writing and courtroom skills.

Work Atmosphere:

At Brown Family Law we work as a team. This means we coordinate and strategize with each other, quality control each other’s work, help each other prepare for hearings and trials, and problem-solve together.

This team approach is vital to our ability to improve as attorneys, serve our clients, and maintain our quality of life as a firm. This approach also means we require our attorneys to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and to be thoughtful and courteous.

Workplace Flexibility:

We aren’t your traditional law office that has offices near the courthouse or downtown. Instead, our offices are located in population centers, which makes it easier for our clients to reach us.

Because we respect our attorneys as individuals, we allow them to freely choose their work environment. This means if you are more productive working from home most of the time, work from home. If you have to be in an office to work effectively (like I do), you may use the office that is provided for you. We utilize Slack and other internal communication technologies to allow attorneys additional flexibility.

This flexibility extends to vacation and sick leave policies: We don’t have any.

You are trusted to get your work done, communicate systematically with clients and the team, help grow our client-base, maintain high levels of client satisfaction, perform well in hearings and at trial, and constantly improve as an attorney.

NOTE: This is not an invitation to slack off. We work hard and serve our clients well. We are kind and respectful to opposing attorneys, and we do everything we can to gain respect from judges and court staff.

Case Work:

You will take ownership of, and be the primary on, cases immediately. This means you would communicate directly with clients, draft all substantive pleadings, and attend all court hearings, mediations, and trials.

We provide regular, systemized case status updates to our clients through calls, texts, and emails, so they always know exactly what’s going on.

Clients are our focus.

Reach:

We serve clients all over Utah. Our primary office is in Sandy, and we have a satellite office in Clearfield.

How to Apply:

If this sounds like the kind of environment in which you’d thrive, and you’re the kind of attorney who excels at what you do, let’s talk.

To apply, please email a résumé and a legal writing sample (up to 10 pages) to support(at)brownfamilylaw.com.

The writing sample should represent your best legal writing and reasoning capabilities, and should be in the form of a substantive pleading. Please, no form or template pleadings.

Good Luck!
