Utah Holiday Parent-Time: How Does the Fourth of July Work?

The Fourth of July is about the middle of summer parent-time (at least that’s how most divorce families think about it). Often, parents will use it as a good exchange point for vacations and the like.

So, it’s important to know how parent-time on the Fourth works. Thankfully, it’s pretty easy and straightforward:

“July 4 beginning 6 p.m. the day before the holiday until 11 p.m. or no later than 6 p.m. on the day following the holiday, at the option of the parent exercising the holiday.”

So, the parent who gets the Fourth has the option of returning kids either on the Fourth by 11 p.m. or keeping the kids July 5 and 6 p.m. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a parent returning their kids on July 4 at 11 p.m., so you can pretty much count on July 5 by 6 p.m.
