How Long Do Utah Divorce Trials Last?

About 98% of Utah divorces never go to trial.

Almost all of them are settled through mediation and negotiation.

That leaves about 2% that do end up in front of a judge.

Of those divorces that do go to trial, how many days do the trials usually last?

In my experience, if everything is on the table (custody, child support, alimony, debts, assets, the home, etc.), then a trial usually lasts two days.

If some of the issues have been settled beforehand, and the trial is just about custody or alimony, then trial usually lasts one day.

This said, most of the time, divorces that go to trial are difficult cases in which people just can’t agree on much of anything.

So, most of our divorce trials last two days.
