What Do You Know About Child Support Orders?

Some people know the ins and outs of child support all too well. Others, however, don’t know the first thing about this. If you have a child with your spouse, if you are going through divorce, questions of child support will need to be answered at some point. While you may be able to work out some details on your own, you can expect the Salt Lake City court to step in when it comes to child support.

In short, a child support order is issued by a family court. The amount that one person pays the other is based on the state’s child support guidelines. This goes a long way in ensuring that all parties involved are on the same page.

While there are state guidelines in place, you need to realize how this works. Generally speaking, the amount paid is based primarily on the income of the non-custodial parent. Furthermore, the number of children also comes into play.

Does the court have the ability to deviate from the state’s guidelines? The answer is yes, but only if it has a good reason for doing so.

If you don’t know anything about child support orders and you are going through divorce, now is the time to learn more. Those who neglect to gain the necessary knowledge could be surprised at what they run into as the divorce unwinds.

Maybe you are required to pay child support, or maybe you are supposed to receive compensation from the other parent. Either way, you have rights and responsibilities. You need to know what these are so you can make informed decisions.
