Thanksgiving Parent-Time: The When and the How Long?

Thanksgiving is the best of American holidays. Food, family, football. Nothing could be better.

Divorce makes Thanksgiving (like most everything else) a little tricky to navigate.

If it’s your year for Thanksgiving (parents alternate Thanksgiving depending on the year), the Utah Code, Section 30-3-35(2)(g)(vii) dictates the time you have.

Here’s the schedule laid out in Utah law: “Thanksgiving holiday beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. until Sunday at 7 p.m.

Thanksgiving is one of the longer holiday periods at four days. If you live close, then it’s great because you get a fair amount of time. If you live in another state, it’s still enough time to make the traveling worth it.

If I lived in another state, though, I would try to work with my ex to extend the holiday even more to maximize the holiday time. Something to think about anyway.

Whatever your situation, enjoy your Thanksgiving by eating way too much.
