Money Troubles may Lead to the Division of Marital Assets in Utah

Utah couples have undoubtedly had their fair share of arguments. Most might have been over or regarding money in one way or another. If it gets bad enough, money issues can end in divorce and the division of marital assets as many couples can attest. A driving force behind many money related arguments seems to be the fact that either spouse is not earning enough money to pay the monthly bills. This could be for any number of reasons such as blaming the other for not having enough ambition to climb higher on the corporate ladder.

Other money arguments could erupt when one spouse feels that he or she is justified in spending money without the other partner knowing about it. When the other spouse takes a hard look at the couple’s finances, he or she could discover the hidden spending or even possibly the hoarding of cash. When one party confronts the other about the subterfuge, some spouses will say that they are saving for the proverbial rainy day.

However, he or she may actually be preparing for divorce by collecting a cache of cash in the form of travelers checks or loadable, prepaid credit cards. Either method will avoid monthly statements, which delays or prevents being discovered. In either case, money may not be at the heart of the issue, but instead the lying of one spouse to the other.

Money makes people do crazy things. If a Utah couple is unable to work through their money problems, the parties could end up going their separate ways. In that case, the last money argument they will have is when they divide the marital assets in a divorce. If the parties can put aside their differences, they may be able to work together toward a divorce settlement that leaves them both satisfied that they were treated fairly.
